This is the Bodvar Bjorgvinsson Web page

Welcome to my home page.

I am a person that is interested in a wide range of things, although my main interest lies in Christian matters. Most of this site will be dedicated to my late father's commentary in Icleandic to the Holy Scriptures (Mr. Bjorgvin Jorgensson's Bible Commentaries), who was the first to write commentaries in Icealdic to nearly all the scriptures of the Holy Bible.

This, however, will not be the concern of the English page, if only for the language barrier.

The English page will mainly be occupied with links to other sites of religious interests (as seen in the left frame), but also of computer and Internet matters related to "Open Source", like the Linux Operating System.

My first link would naturally be the 16 week free on-line course for beginners. Regrettably, this course has been suspended indefinately.

Professionally, I am mainly concerned with the structuring, layout and control of documents. I work as Publications Supervisor, Flight Suport, at Air Atlanta Icelandic in Reykjavik, Iceland, where I am responsible for the layout, publication and revision controlling of the in-house made manuals and related documents. I mainly work with Adobe FrameMaker and Acrobat for the most of the documents, but I also do a lot in Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and Visio. For pictures, I use The GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulating Program) a lot.

Accordingly, I am very interested in layout- and typesetting tools as well as structuring tools (FrameMaker and XML tools of various sort).

However, as you may see for this page, I am personally very interested in Linux and other Open Source software and systems, like OpenOffice, which in many ways outsmarts its competitor, MS Office. However, let's remember that no software has yet been found faultless.

In 1999, due to a special need at work, I started studying Linux, taking a 16 week course at BasicLinux, all for free! Still it is free and it will be for unforeseeable future. Here you get the basic grips needed to be able to master this great operating system.

My experience with Linux? Let's suffice to say: "No viruses." That is to say, of course I get all the same viruses as everyone else, but viruses targeted at the Microsoft Windows O/S (Operating System) do not work in other O/Ss. And that counts for 99% of all viruses and worms. Only a handful of viruses and worms have been written with Linux as a target, but there are no records of any real harm done.

My CV/Profile can be found here.

For the time being, there is not much English stuff on this website, but some links in the left frame may be of interest.

If you want to see my blogging, go to klingenberg. I mostly blog in Icelandic, but some is in English, mainly discussion about software.

For any questions, email me.
